YES! Status Coup's On-The-Ground TOXIC GAS Reporting in Kalamazoo Pays Off, Draws More Media Coverage
The Daily Beast, Breaking Points, and others are now working on stories about the toxic gases being emitted in Kalamazoo from multi-billion dollar company Graphic Packaging International
Hey folks, it’s Jordan. In a little bit, I will make another direct request for you SIGN UP TODAY as a Status Coup member to help us fund our INDEPENDENT ON-THE-GROUND reporting for $5-10 bucks a month.
But first, I want to share some rare good news (we sure do cover a lot of horrible stuff!)
Yesterday, one of the residents I interviewed in Kalamazoo last week, Mary Collins, was contacted by a reporter from The Daily Beast after seeing my reporting ON-THE-GROUND in Kalamazoo (see below).
My guess is The Daily Beast reporter saw Status Coup’s reporting on Twitter, where our over eight-minute video from our ON-THE-GROUND reporting last week got nearly 50,000 views and 853 retweets.
In addition to The Daily Beast now covering the story, Breaking Points with Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti—which Status Coup has a content partnership with—will be posting an in-depth video of my ON-THE-GROUND reporting from Kalamazoo. BP has 955,000 YouTube subscribers, helping us reach exponentially more eyeballs about this horrible story.
And, although I don’t know if it’s connected to our reporting in Kalamazoo last week, today Michigan outlet MLive reported that Graphic Packaging’s “toxic gas levels may pose health risks,” new data shows. Talk about one hell of an understatement!
Often times mainstream corporate media ignores our investigative reporting and bombshell stories on government and corporate-sponsored poisoning of vulnerable communities—so it’s great to see a bigger mainstream digital outlet following up on our reporting. Let’s hope this is a sign of things to come (but I won’t hold my breath).
This week, we have gained 17 paid Status Coup members while Louis DeAngelis has been reporting ON-THE-GROUND in East Palestine (his third reporting trip there in three months). Our goal for this month is to gain at least 100 so…83 to go!
If you’re able to support this ON-THE-GROUND reporting—our 2 weeks straight of reporting in Flint, Kalamazoo, and East Palestine cost us nearly $7,000—please sign up as a paid Status Coup member for $5 a month (16 cents a day) or $10 a month (33 cents a day) to help us…
Stay on these stories
Continue traveling to report in these cities
Break new stories and bombshells on these stories
SHAME corporate media for covering up these stories/toeing government & corporate propaganda
Sincerely,
Jordan
