Why Corporate Media's Disgust With Trump's Brazen Corruption Is...Corrupt
"There's no more back room anymore, it's the front room, and they're sitting right there," tech journalist Kara Swisher told Anderson Cooper on Trump's corruption.
Trump 2.0’s shock and awe campaign is in full swing and less than 24 hours in, mainstream media is aghast.
To be clear, most of Trump’s onslaught of executive orders—from pardoning January 6th convicts to the unconstitutional ending of birthright citizenship to pulling America out of the Paris Climate Accords to canceling a Biden executive order to lower prescription drug prices— are dangerous, racist, and regressive.
Working class people, and the media, should be aghast; they should be loudly calling out Trump, the quasi-billionaire and phony populist, who has successfully pulled off a decade-long con of large swaths of working class voters. But what’s been truly infuriating is seeing elite corporate media’s response to the brazen corruption on display via Trump’s shotgun marriage to the big tech triumvirate of Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos.
"There's no more back room anymore, it's the front room, and they're sitting right there," tech journalist Kara Swisher told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Inauguration Day. The two were discussing the billionaire big tech vultures having a front-row seat behind Trump during his inaugural address (well technically they were in the second row).
There’s been a litany of other mainstream media meltdowns at Trump’s unabashed, loud-and-proud corruption.
“Tech execs take center stage in new administration,” read a CNN headline. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow attempted to out-aghast her competitor with her own fury: “Why Trump-style corruption is bad and makes governments suck,” the MSNBC headline reads. Popular tech outlet the Verge posited “Welcome to the era of gangster tech regulation.” While The New Republic spun up “Donald Trump’s “Golden Age” of Corruption and Cronyism.” And before Trump’s inauguration, podcaster Scott Galloway stunned the cocktail-crowd hosts of Morning Joe by ranting about America being an oligarchy.
Here’s the problem…
All of this corruption has already been ravaging America for decades, yet none of these members of the elite media class said PEEP about it. Why? Well, because the corruption was comfortably cradled in the “back room”—hidden from public view by mainstream media who chose access to politicians and corporations over exposing the corruption of those same politicians and corporations.
Here’s an exercise for you. Please check off the following facts you’ve heard Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, or the New York Times do primetime segments or prominent columns on:
Amazon struck contracts with the Pentagon, NSA, CIA, and DHS, worth tens of billions of dollars (while getting away with stealing competing small business’ proprietary data, burying competing businesses in its search algorithm, and engaging in widespread union busting).
Google has struck contracts with the Pentagon, NSA, CIA, DHHS worth tens of billions of dollars (while it got away with violating anti-trust law in its search business and rigged YouTube’s algorithm to hide independent media outlets and elevate corporate media).
Five big tech companies made billions off the 20-year “war on terror.”
Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s two daughters have worked at and/or lobbied for both Amazon and Facebook. Unsurprisingly, Schumer has been one of the top recipients of money from big tech; equally unsurprising, he helped kill a major anti-trust bill meant to actually regulate these tech behemoths.
Nancy Pelosi has made tens of millions on trading big tech stocks—while, as a longtime Congressional leader, she had access to insider information that provides her a leg up versus the general public (also known as insider trading).
A Wall Street privatization scheme was the driver behind the poisoning of Flint (and the current MI attorney general is ACTIVELY covering it up 11 years later).
Senator Joe Manchin was actively making millions off of several coal companies while simultaneously serving as the chairman of the Senate Energy Committee.
Millionaire Senator and former West Virginia Governor Jim Justice owned a major coal empire while one of his coal companies was allegedly complicit in poisoning the water in “coal country” Southern West Virginia.
Lawyers from the Democratic National Committee openly stating the party has a right to pick its nominees in the back rooms—rather than voters Democratically choosing.
This is just a PARTIAL list!
I can do a whole series of stories on the corruption that has strangled our “representative” democracy for several decades, but a las, I have a lot of other things to investigate and cover (and my two-year-old currently pulling at me).
I don’t know about you, but I don’t recall CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, The New York Times, Washington Post—or any of the Resistance liberals currently crowing about Trump’s in-your-face corruption—hyperventilating about America’s decay into a corrupt oligarchy while all of this was occurring out in the open.
But suddenly, it’s a Defcon 1 emergency of democracy! Ah…the robber Barrons and big-tech vultures have swung open the door from the back room! Now, their taken their seats in Trump’s lap!
GIVE…….ME……A……BREAK.
These corporate media ghouls don’t actually care about the corruption that has hijacked our government—including in the streets and sewers of local city governments. They only care now because the corruption has been moved out of the back rooms, upsetting their sensibilities and fetish for civility.
Unlike them, Status Coup has proudly and consistently covered government and corporate corruption for seven years—exposing it in the back and front rooms. We will continue to do so during Trump 2.0 and beyond.

Love the work that you do
There are a few of us who ARE aghast at what is happening and has been happening all along. Will it stop? No, because it is built into the system and will endure as long as the oligarchs will it to endure. We are fucked, people. Know it now. Your children will be forced to live by the dictates of unscrupulous government officials. It is OVER!
