We're Headed to Trump's Alligator ICE Hellhole
Our Ashley Bishop is headed to Florida to cover the heinous new ICE prison nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz" where immigrants will be surrounded by...alligators and pythons
Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
As the dangerous Trump 2.0 regime continues to batter the working class, launch dangerous attacks that could spark war, and ram through the most regressive/destructive bill in modern-American history, Trump is set to visit the pristine Everglades tomorrow for the opening of a new ICE prison nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz”…because it’s surrounded by alligators and pythons.
**And we are headed down there ON-THE-GROUND to cover this monstrosity of a prison and the various issues and threats it poses to immigrants, the environment and local habitat, and local indigenous tribes.**
None of those things seem to matter to Florida’s attorney general:
“People get out, there’s not much waiting for em other than alligators and pythons—nowhere to go, nowhere to hide,” FL AG James Uthmeier said in a twisted statement about the perks of not needing traditional security around the ICE facility because the alligators would take care of immigrant detainees who try to escape!
WATCH my previous video on this dystopian prison:
The open-air prison—in the scolding heat and humidity of South Florida—will cost Florida taxpayers nearly $450 million dollars and hold up to 5,000 beds for undocumented immigrants (most of whom are not receiving due process or proper legal advice or services).
And judging by our on-the-ground reporting from other ICE prisons, including the controversial prison in Newark, New Jersey, there’s no guarantee prisoners will be provided sufficient food and water. Our Jon Farina recently reported ON-THE-GROUND there on the night that a prisoners’ riot broke out inside—after weeks of prisoners being denied proper water and food.
“What we’re hearing is this all started because people are not being fed…people are getting two meals a day, sometimes the meals are Ramen Noodles; what we heard today is it was either a single hot dog or two slices of bread and a bottle of water and they haven’t eaten in 20 hours,” a protester told Farina outside the Newark ICE prison.
The immigrants at Delaney Hall prison in Newark were also receiving scolding hot, funky-smelling water. I don’t imagine it will get much better in Ron DeSantis’ “free state of Florida”prison— with swarming alligators abound.
Beyond the obvious human rights’ abuses this prison presents, there are serious environmental threats posed to the already-polluted Everglades—which is critically important to the local environment providing drinking water to eight million Floridians in addition to its flood control function and habitat for wildlife and many endangered species.
The prison will also ransack tribal ancestral land for up to 15 Miccosukee and Seminole villages (including sacred burial grounds).
But what does Trump and co. care? If it were up to them, the alligators would eat Native Americans too! I wish I was kidding but, judging by some of my conversations with Republicans near Standing Rock nearly a decade ago, that’s not too far from the truth.
While Ashley and Jon are down in Florida, they will speak with folks directly affected by this prison—immigrants-rights group, environmental activists, Native Americans, and more. This ON-THE-GROUND reporting is critically important—and expensive. Sadly, so few corporate or independent outlets are doing it. Please support our in-the-trenches reporting for as low as $5 bucks a month.
As always, let’s keep waking up the masses.

Good for Status coup. I look forward to seeing your coverage on this dystopian nightmare
