We Went to Trump's ICE Prison...It Smelled Like DEADLY BURN PITS

Hey folks,
It’s Jordan, hope you’re doing well.
Last week, our reporter Ashley Bishop reported ON-THE-GROUND from outside the controversial new ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey—the same center where Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was recently arrested at.
***As always, providing this ON-THE-GROUND reporting is extremely expensive and takes a lot of resources (and virtually no other outlets are doing it like we are). SUPPORT OUR REPORTING for as low as $5 bucks a month***
While reporting, Ashley spoke with Adam, a protester and U.S. military veteran who served in the army from 2010 to 2018 and was deployed overseas in Kuwait. Outside the ICE detention center, he could not help but notice the horrible smell that evoked bad memories from his military service.
“You can smell from the air over here that this is a place where environmental racism is happening; one thing that I remember distinctly from my time in the military were places where there were burn pits—and the smell is not too different from over here.”
For Adam, serving overseas opened his eyes to a lot of “hard truths about American foreign policy and about the way business is done.”
***As usual, Status Coup was the only INDEPENDENT news outlet ON-THE-GROUND covering protests at the detention center—which to be clear is more of a prison where immigrants are being held without full due process. WATCH OUR TWO LIVESTREAMS ON-THE-GROUND that day***
We will have more of Ashley’s reporting from the ICE prison center this week. As always, thanks for your support.
