We need your help to get back to East Palestine
Residents are STILL being told it's safe while more people are becoming ill EVERYDAY
Status Coup Community,
We’ve been covering East Palestine since the first day of the disaster on February 6th. For nearly a week Status Coup reporters Louis DeAngelis and Jon Farina were ON-THE-GROUND interviewing scientists, politicians and MOST IMPORTANTLY hearing DIRECTLY from East Palestine Residents.
So far:
We have spoken to dozens of East Palestine residents ON-THE-GROUND in East Palestine Ohio who reported health symptoms their families are experiencing such as rashes, throwing up, feeling drunk, having blood in stools, feeling intoxicated and other issues.
We’ve uncovered the deaths of animals such as foxes, deer, chickens, birds, and fish.
We caught Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine in a litany of lies, saying he didn’t drag his feet on the response to the crisis in East Palestine.
We’ve talked to activists like Erin Brockovich, scientists, experts, and those who have blown the whistle on cover-ups of ecological disasters as the government and corporations skirt accountability.
After several government townhalls, East Palestine Residents STILL have NO answers about the dangers of toxins their bodies are exposed to or the chemicals in the soil they rely on for crops, the streams their kids play in, the wells that they drink from, and the air they breathe every day. They are carrying economic burdens TODAY and many have no resources to relocate and leave their homes.
Right now, it’s clear, the people are angry and the EPA is taking a “wait and see” stance by placing the responsibility for clean up into the hands of Norfolk Southern, which is responsible for the train derailment and massive chemical fire that many have described as an “Ohio Chernobyl.”
These stories NEED to be told.
Unlike national media, Status Coup is NOT going to abandon this story! Can you become a member today to help us cover the cost of REAL, INDEPENDENT ON-THE-GROUND coverage?
Status Coup will be sending Louis DeAngelis ON-THE-GROUND in about a week to go back to East Palestine, Ohio to hear DIRECTLY from impacted community members as complaints pile up about the lack of response in what could be one of the greatest ecological disasters in decades.
To be completely transparent, we NEED YOUR HELP. Between a reporter, videojournalist, and other costs, this kind of ON-THE-GROUND reporting is extremely expensive for a small, independent outlet with ZERO corporate funding.
How we are able to fund important reporting ON-THE-GROUND is through our paid members. Join Status Coup’s membership to help support REAL INDEPENDENT coverage, with memberships as low as $5 monthly.
