Protestors DEMANDING a stop to an AI data center bill have gathered outside of Sen. Chuck Schumer’s New York City apartment in Brooklyn. They say timing is urgent as Sen. Schumer is positioning himself to allow the GOP to pass a bill on Monday that would allow Big Tech to pollute New York. A slew of environmental, environmental justice, civil rights, immigrant rights, and Native American organizations have come out against the bill known as the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (“BAAJA”), calling it a dirty deal.

Activists with 350Brooklyn, Climate Families NYC, Food & Water Watch, Indivisible Brooklyn, New York Communities for Change and other New Yorkers plan to continue their presence outside of Schumer’s door with through the weekend leading up to the vote.
In a press release from organizers, they stated: The bill hands an enormous advantage to dirty, costly fracked gas projects to power data centers by gutting foundational environmental and historic preservation laws. Outrageously, it even allows polluting corporations to sue for large taxpayer payouts if their permit is rejected. Both oil & gas companies and the tech industry are backing the bill amidst the rise in energy-guzzling AI data centers that use massive numbers of polluting gas turbines for electricity.
