It’s the “profits over people” business model. They have to keep the shareholders happy. The only way to do that is to deny/withhold care. That’s why we need a single-payer system like the rest of civilization. Sincerely, Patty RN, BSN
Of course they did! In Wisconsin they refused to do a CT or MRI when I reported with months of severe R hip pain - thinking I’m drug seeking - instead they sent me for PT & dry needling - with no diagnosis - making it extremely worse where I needed a walker. I moved to CA - got different insurance and found I had bulging disc, severe stenosis, pinched nerve & my spinal cord was completely blocked! I knew I needed neck surgery which I’m recovering from now. AND in 4 weeks will be having lumbar surgery. 😖
We could be twins! Luckily, my primary listened, ordered appropriate imaging and they couldn’t get me to the OR fast enough when my degenerative disc disease was diagnosed. I was fused from C2-T2 with titanium rods/screws, laminectomies and bone grafts. Was supposed to get lumbar fusion L2-sacrum, but I moved to AZ, new guy wanted me to get a nerve stimulator first. Another neurosurgeon agreed to do the fusion, because the issue is spondylolisthesis, not pain. Hasn’t been done yet. I had a lot of impingement on L3, causing Right leg to randomly buckle out from under me. I need a walker for balance when I go out . Luckily, I have good insurance.
I had a UHC plan. It was $1000/mo for me and two children. They denied every single claim we had. They didn’t pay for a single visit or labwork or treatment of any kind. Everything was denied. When I’d call they’d tell me to ask for a secondary review. The times I tried that…denied.
We will never have a healthcare system that cares about the health of anyone until we remove the for-profit status of the companies “offering” care. We need to be able to negotiate drug prices, end the endless patent tweaks by big pharma and remove the motivation for sick care over wellness care. Why are the people in Finland, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands happier than anyone in the USA? Why are they better educated (from K-12 and beyond)? Why are they healthier and more productive? Because their needs are a priority for the government. They don’t worry about a Dr’s visit or a trip to the ER. It won’t bankrupt them to seek treatment. Their mentality is that of the greater good instead of our “every man for himself”. The Republican Party has masterfully weaved the narrative that healthcare is earned, not provided. A college education is paid for with loans than never end (I still owe $1800 for fees from our two high school students and a combined 80k for our Bachelor degrees). The real mainstream media (Fox) has successfully convinced that these things are all “woke” and therefore evil. These things are handouts that we all pay dearly for… because immigrants are taking it away from us and causing prices to soar. Yes, they blame immigrants for just about everything. It’s been their M.O. since Fox took over the airways and made hatred an addiction. We have to fight this, now.
They could provide a lot more care if they weren’t paying their CEO 26 million dollars/year. I would never compromise my professional standards, my obligation to my patients, nor jeopardize my license to practice, by following orders that would amount to negligence and malpractice.
