Independent videojournalist Jon Farina covered a rally outside a federal courthouse in Newark, New Jersey where attorneys for Mahmoud Khalil were inside defending him against the Trump administration's attempt to deport him for his leadership role in the 2024 Columbia University student encampment protests against Israel's murderous assault on Gaza and Palestinians. Khalil, a Palestinian activist, has been detained and held at an ICE facility in Louisiana since his arrest on March 8th, 2025. Khalil was in the U.S. legally on a student visa, which the Trump administration states it is revoking, falsely claiming that Khalil is linked with Hamas.
