"They're Killing Us for Money!" Jordan ON-THE-GROUND in POISONED Coal Country West Virginia
In one of the poorest communities in the U.S, residents have been sick for OVER A YEAR after creeks & private water wells were contaminated, they believe, by the local coal mines and leaking oil wells
Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
Apologies for the delay in posting/going live—the Internet connection and WIFI down here in coal country is slower than my metabolism…which is pretty bad! We had to drive two towns over to the library just to upload a few video files from yesterday (which FYI… we woke up at 3:30 am in Michigan to catch a 6am flight and ended up finishing our work day in West Virginia at 9pm. We both were delirious by the end of last night!)
I’ve seen a lot of horrible water in America, but what we saw yesterday was truly stunning. WATCH OUR REPORT BELOW:
“They’re killing us for money!” Wyoming County West Virginia resident Richard Altizer told us standing over contaminated Indian Creek. The “they” he was referring to was the local coal mines, whom residents believe breached the underground water aquifer over a year ago thus contaminating hundreds of residents’ private water wells they get their drinking water from. They have received a mixture of brown and orange looking water that in some spots looks covered with oil sheen. In one area of the creek, we saw what looked like a living organism growing! Residents also tell us that the contaminated water—which independent testing showed had DANGEROUSLY ELEVATED levels of arsenic, lead, iron, and manganese—was also dumped into local Indian Creek…
From here, Indian Creek runs seven miles down to the Guyandotte River River which eventually flows into the Ohio River—for which five million people get their drinking water from. Local Wyoming County residents have been growing sicker and sicker, stricken with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. Some previously healthy residents have recently begun mysteriously dying from unknown causes.
And if this wasn’t bad enough….multi-millionaire “deadbeat” West Virginia Governor Jim Justice—who is now running for Joe Manchin’s Senate Seat—owns several coal mines in this area and has been COMPLETELY SILENT on the poisoning of Coal Country.
There’s a lot more to the story but we’re running around doing more interviews (and are going to try and GO LIVE at 5pm eastern from here if the WIFI/Internet signal allows us).
