Jordan Chariton interviewed several Kalamazoo, Michigan residents in Kalamazoo about the ongoing toxic gas being released into a poor Black Northside neighborhood—and now whiter parts of town—by the by multi-billion dollar packaging company Graphic Packaging. The gas and odor is so bad, asthma and COPD rates have skyrocketed in the poor Black neighborhood next to the plant—and after the plant's 2022 expansion, the gas has spread to the white neighborhood causing health problems for residents. Despite years of complaints coming from Kalamazoo residents—and Michigan's environmental department issuing Graphic Packaging violations for pollution—Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer's administration helped Graphic Packaging expand in 2021
