On January 11th, what looked like an invading army of Border Patrol agents invaded a Minneapolis gas station. If you missed it, watch our INCREDIBLY ALARMING footage of the invasion shot by our videojournalist Jon Farina.

“We got a Honduran,” one agent yelled as he loomed over the driver’s side of a vehicle. He then broke the glass window and upwards of 10 agents swarmed the car to drag the man out (WATCH video above).

During the mayhem, 22-year-old U.S. citizen Lalo Rios Meza was legally recording the brazenly illegal activities of Border Patrol. That’s when a Border Patrol agent got in his face, screaming for him to “get back!”

The Border Patrol agent LUNGED at Rios Meza, followed by four Border Patrol agents violently pinning him down to the ground.

“Yes sir, yes sir, yes sir!” Rios Meza responded.Next, the agent pushed him.

”Don’t touch me, don’t touch me!” Rios Meza responded.

THEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.

The Border Patrol agent LUNGED at Rios Meza, followed by four Border Patrol agents violently pinning him down to the ground.

“I’m not resisting!” Rios Meza shouted as he was brutally pinned to the ground. Next thing he knew, he was carried by five agents—with his full body sprawled across facing down—to an unmarked vehicle for which he was thrown in (see photo above).

The 22-year-old father—who works three jobs to support his family—was then taken to the ICE detention center in Minneapolis, illegally held for hours, provided limited foot, water, and bathroom access—and later released.

The next day, on January 12th, the Department of Homeland Security tweeted about the gas station attack, claiming that, ”One US citizen did not comply with the lawfully given order and instead responded by hitting an officer and was arrested.”

Unsurprisingly, this was a lie.

Status Coup obtained multiple pieces of video footage—taken from different angles—showing that Rios Meza not only did not hit a Border Patrol agent—but he was complying with the officer’s orders when the officer, unprovoked, lunged at him and brutally attacked him.

“They’re literally straight up lying on everything,” Rios Meza told Status Coup in an interview (watch the video at the top of this post).

He told us that while he was detained in the ICE detention center, located in the federal building, their process was “very very unorganized” with “no procedure.”

“They don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t have no communication between them to know what’s going on with each individual that they’re dealing with. It was really hard to acquire any bathroom breaks, any food, any water—there’s no beds. It’s just very hard to acquire anything that you need. When my family and friends was looking for me, I had people call; they told them that I wasn’t there, my cousin went to the gates, they also told them that I wasn't there. They told them that I was either with the U.S. Marshalls or the National Guard. They’re literally straight up lying on everything.”

He added that there were so many ICE and other federal agents in the garage of the ICE detention center, “it looked like a party in the garage.”
