MAJOR: Cornel West Expects to Make Ballot in This Key, Decisive Swing State Over Next Month
"We are on the ground in Michigan and we're collecting thousands of signatures and I think we'll be able to announce that [making ballot] in about a month or so," campaign spokesperson tells Jordan
Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
While covering a Cornel West presidential rally in Harlem, NY the other night—in which we were one of the ONLY news outlets there—his campaign made some news in an interview with me. If you want us to cover more third-party candidates in the 2024 election, PLEASE SUPPORT US and our ON-THE-GROUND reporting (it’s not cheap!)
"We are on the ground in Michigan and we're collecting thousands of signatures and I think we'll be able to announce that [making ballot] within the next month or so,” campaign spokesperson Edwin DeJesus told me. “And I think that’s going to really be a paradigm shift in the mainstream media’s willingness to accept Dr. West’s campaign as serious and viable and as an actual threat to the Biden-Trump establishment.” WATCH INTERVIEW BELOW.
Wowzers. It’s been welll-established that the Democratic Party and Biden world is worried about Dr. West’s third-party bid potentially playing “spoiler” to Biden’s re-election. In addition, most pollsters and political analysts agree: Biden MUST win Michigan—and the other two states in the “blue wall” (Pennsylvania, Wisconsin)—if he has any chance of defeating Donald Trump and winning reelection.
This makes it BIG NEWS that Cornel West’s campaign expects to have enough signatures to make the ballot before the July state deadline. As it currently stands, with Cornel West/Jill Stein/RFK Jr. factored into Michigan polls, Biden and Trump are essentially tied (Biden, 44%, Trump 42%, RFK Jr. 10%, West 2%, Stein 2%).
But if West officially makes it onto the Michigan ballot—which you better believe the DNC and Biden campaign will aggressively challenge—his current 2% in polls could shift upward as the state’s significant Arab-American population concentrated in the Dearborn area remain disgusted with President Biden’s funding of Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza (West has recently visited Dearborn and spoke with community members there). West, along with Jill Stein, will also appeal to younger voters and Black voters in Michigan.
If West makes it onto the state ballot, even a half-a-percentage increase in his support could help sink Biden’s victory in the state (in my view, the biggest threat to Biden in Michigan and other swing states is not West—it’s lower voter turnout among the Democratic base whom, frankly, is not enthused by him or his policies).
We would like to cover more of Cornel West’s campaign—as well as Dr. Jill Stein’s Green Party campaign. Can you become a monthly SC member for as low as $5 bucks a month to help us to do?
As always, thanks for your support.
