Jordan Wins Another Book Award for "We The Poisoned"
"We the Poisoned: Exposing the Flint Water Crisis Cover Up and the Poisoning of 100,000 Americans" won the Silver Medal in the environment/ecology book category for Independent Publisher Book Awards
Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
Excited to share I have now won a second book award for my 2024 book, "We The Poisoned: Exposing the Flint Water Crisis Cover Up and the Poisoning of 100,000 Americans,” winning the Silver Medal in the Environment/Ecology book category for the Independent Book Publisher Book Awards.
This award comes on top of another book award I won earlier in the week: the Silver Medal in the Journalism & Investigative Reporting category for the Nautilus Book Awards.
For both awards, I was fortunate to beat our hundreds of other book entries to earn runner up for the best book in both the Journalism/Investigative Reporting category and now the Environment/Ecology category (and thanks to those who’ve messaged me saying I should have won the gold!)
To be clear, I have not investigated the Flint water crisis and cover-up to win an award or grow personally. In fact, if you want to climb up the journalism ladder and become a “star,” stories like Flint are the exact OPPOSITE ones one would cover to rise personally. Unfortunately, elite mainstream media view communities like Flint—poisoned by their own government, who then launched an unprecedented cover-up and left residents to slowly die—are really an afterthought to mainstream media (and unfortunately, even most independent outlets).
But, to me, the Flint water crisis and cover-up—which my book revealed a sprawling government cover-up including political payoffs, destruction of evidence, witness tampering, surveillance of Flint residents, and more—is much bigger than just Flint, Michigan. And it’s about much more than water.
This award comes on top of another book award I won earlier in the week: the Silver Medal in the Journalism & Investigative Reporting category for the Nautilus Book Awards.
Based on my reporting on the water crisis, which has spanned nearly a decade and included 21 reporting trips to Flint, “We the Poisoned” reveals the biggest government cover-up of the 21st century—involving an alarming array of government and corporate America—including: the federal government, state of Michigan government, city of Flint government, Genesee County government, powerful private foundations, powerful media outlets, and major Wall Street Banks.
And the worst party: the cover-up is STILL ONGOING 11 years later; despite false claims by the government and media, Flint STILL has toxic water in many parts of the city. The city also has:
Surging cancer rates as a result of residents consuming poisonous water
All of the corroded/damages water pipes have not been replaced over a decade later
Not one government official is in prison for their role in poisoning the city (and likely never will be)
Residents haven’t yet gotten one dime from an already insufficient $600 million legal settlement ($200 million of which is going to lawyers).
National and local Michigan media have declared the crisis over and stopped covering/investigating years ago.
I will not stop investigating Flint, and other cities like it that have become corporate sacrifice zones swept under the rug by the media. Thank you to all who have bought my book, spread the word about it, watched our “Flint Fatigue” documentary, and supported us as paying members so that we can continue going to Flint and other communities like it.
