Jordan Interviews UAW President Shawn Fain: We're Fighting for "What the Hell We Deserve," Biden Still Hasn't Earned Endorsement
UAW President also rejects Ford CEO Jim Farley's lies made in response to the union expanding the strike on Friday. Jordan will be LIVE from Ford strike in Chicago this afternoon
Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
I had the pleasure of interviewing UAW President Shawn Fain yesterday for the second time yesterday from the GM strike picket line in Lansing Michigan. Yesterday, Fain announced an expansion of the strike to include a Ford Assembly plant in Chicago with nearly 5,000 workers and a GM assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan.
“They have to own this, they’re the reason we’re all sitting out here right now, none of us want to be out here right now…our membership is fed up and they’re energized.” Fain also said in his 29 years with UAW, he has never seen the union workers standing so strongly together and ready to “fight for what the hell we deserve.”

I am proud to say Status Coup has been ON-THE-GROUND covering all 16 days of the UAW Strike—in Michigan, Ohio, and later today in Chicago, Illinois. As far as I know, we are the only outlet—corporate or independent—to cover this strike ON-THE-GROUND every day. And when I say covering, I mean doing long-form interviews with workers from the picket lines, sharing their stories (many of which are, frankly, horror stories).
This is very different from local and national media, who generally show up for 10-20 minutes, interview a worker or two for a few minutes, and then slice it down to 20 seconds for the nightly news. As they neuter the workers’ words down to a few seconds, the anchor typically recited the corporate line about the strike “hurting the economy” and “hurting the consumer.”
This reporting is VERY expensive and hard to sustain given we are truly independent and proudly have no larger corporate funding. Our goal is to gain 15-20 new paying members every day while ON-THE-GROUND. Yesterday, we gained 13, so today our goal is 20! If you value our strike reporting and want it to continue, please sign up as a Status Coup member for $5-10 bucks a month. $5 bucks equals 16 cents a day; $10 bucks equals 33 cents a day.
Already a member? You can also DONATE to help fund this reporting trip.
As always, thank you so much for your support. I’ll see you this afternoon LIVE from the Ford strike in Chicago.
