Her 17-Year-Old Daughter Died of a Severe Asthma Attack, Son on Life Support Due to TOXIC Kalamazoo Paper Mill
1pm eastern: MI Gov. Whitmer's admin approved $125 million bond deal that helped Graphic Packaging EXPAND—despite years of complaints from poor Black residents of toxic gases & smell sickening them
Deann Winfield’s 17-year-old daughter had a minor case of asthma before they moved a block away from Graphic Packaging’s paper mill in Kalamazoo. Afterwards, the plant—which releases over 30 toxic gases creating a horrible smell throughout the community—caused her daughter’s asthma to become severe.
So severe, she tragically died of an asthma attack. Making matters worse, her son, who did not have asthma growing up, got so sick living next tot he plant he is now on 24/7 oxygen and life support…at the age of 32.
Deann’s story, and many other residents’ Jordan Chariton spoke to in his most recent ON-THE-GROUND reporting trip in Kalamazoo Michigan, is tragic. WATCH Jordan’s in-depth interview with Deann at 1pm eastern. SUPPORT our ON-THE-GROUND reporting as a member for $5-10 bucks a month.
