Status Coup’s Jon Farina was reporting on the ground after federal immigration agents shot and killed a woman on Minneapolis’ southside. While Jon was not at the scene the moment shots rang out, he did get video of the shooting and its aftermath from a witness.
Video recorded by a witness shows a black SUV pulling out from the curb. A federal agent is standing near the driver’s side front quarter panel as the vehicle begins to move. Gunshots ring out. The vehicle accelerates and travels down the block before colliding with a white car and a utility pole.
People standing nearby scream at the agents. “You shot someone in the fucking face,” one yells. “Do you have a conscience?”
Agents swarm the vehicle before the clip ends, opening the doors and bringing a dog around the SUV.
A second video taken shortly after shows firefighters pulling a limp body out of the SUV’s driver’s seat. They carry the body down the block before laying the person down along the sidewalk near an intersection. The first responders begin CPR.
People protesting the federal agents continue to gather. The street is swarmed with federal agents, while a few dozen onlookers line the sidewalks.
Eventually, three gurneys are brought over to where the first responders are administering CPR. The clip ends with firefighters, police, and medical staff gathered around the body on the ground.
Jon continued to report from the scene, recording the federal response. He captured the moments the agents deployed tear gas on himself, the other journalists there to document the scene, and the crowd of protesters.
Thus far ICE has inflicted every manner of violence and brutality on communities short of openly murdering people in the streets, and now they've crossed that final line. Utterly reprehensible.
