Hey folks, it’s Jordan.
Breaking news this morning as the Wall Street Journal reports the Department of Justice recently opened a civil fraud investigation into United Healthcare over its fraudulent Medicare Advantage practices (that dangerously preys on the elderly and senior citizens in order to hoard more profit). From WSJ:
The new civil fraud investigation is examining the company’s practices for recording diagnoses that trigger extra payments to its Medicare Advantage plans, including at physician groups the insurance giant owns.
A series of articles in The Wall Street Journal last year showed that Medicare paid UnitedHealth billions of dollars for questionable diagnoses. Attorneys with the Justice Department as recently as Jan. 31 interviewed medical providers named in the articles. In the Medicare Advantage system, insurers get lump-sum payments from the federal government to oversee enrollees’ Medicare benefits. When patients have certain diagnoses, the payments go up, creating an incentive to diagnose more diseases.
***I will be LIVE around 1pm eastern ON-THE-GROUND in NYC outside a state of New York courthouse as Luigi Mangione, the alleged shooter of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will be back in court as prosecutors and his defense lawyers will provide updates on their respective cases and a trial start date will potentially be set. Healthcare reform/justice for Luigi Mangione protests will take place outside; I’ll cover LIVE (SHARE stream below).***
We have extensively reported on United Healthcare’s SCAM practices that prey on seniors and bilk Medicare—i.e. the government—out of BILLIONS of dollars by submitting B.S. patient diagnoses to mooch more cash from the government (see videos and interviews below).
Frankly, although ANY action by the DOJ is better than nothing, I am not doing cartwheels over here. This should not be a civil fraud investigation, which will likely result in nothing more than a big settlement/fine for United Healthcare to pay…
Before they go right back to scamming seniors and the rest of us. This should be a **CRIMINAL** investigation as predatory-for-profit health insurance companies like United Healthcare are committing fraud that actually kills patients and inflicts long-term damage.
I will be talking about this and more with protesters this afternoon as they rally for healthcare reform and a fair trial for Luigi Mangione.
As always, thanks for your support. Let’s keep waking up the masses!
