Watching ICE you tube videos every fucking day is giving us PTSD literally. I just realized that I start breathing heavier. I get this horrible anxious feeling of fear and disgust and sadness. What the fuck is this doing to the goddamn collective brain in this country?
I realize I’m at my breaking point mentally watching this shit day after day - I was watching a YouTube video yesterday of monks from India, who have been walking across the country for peace and I found myself crying and crying and thought goddamn why is this so emotional? And now I know why - this must be what people in war torn countries feel like and we’re not even at war – but I guess we are. I feel like this morning I can hardly catch my breath like I had been running a mile after watching a video of a man at a gas station being drug from his car & thrown to the ground as at least 20 ICE agents with heavy weapons guard the scene. I moved back to this town I left when I was 27 years old for my career - i lived & worked in CA, NE, TX, OH, DC, HI, WA, and moved back here after my husband died. It’s serious maga country inside a blue state. I also realized that when I stand at the rallies with my sign in Carbondale, IL or even in my small town at the 4-way stop in southern illinois, it crosses my mind that someone could shoot me from their car. I’m not afraid – but it’s in the back of my mind - even pepper spray would be enough to stop my breathing because of bronchiectasis and Vocal cord dysfunction – it would close off my throat. And I didn’t actually really give it any thought until a friend in New York said gosh you’re so brave. Aren’t you afraid that somebody could shoot you ? she just said to me what’s been in the back of my mind every time I’m out there - i just disregard it. And I don’t think I’m being dramatic and I’m not talking about ICE necessarily - i’m talking about the ignorant ass maga that drives by and yells fuck you – there’s always a couple of those every time I’m out there.
