5 Year Anniversary of Our HISTORIC Jan. 6 Footage
Status Coup's Jon Farina captured the most important and striking moments of the January 6, 2021 mob 5 years ago today
Five years ago today, Status Coup video-journalist Jon Farina followed a mob President Trump had brainwashed and hoodwinked to the Capitol with the hopes of overturning the results of a free and fair election. The insurrection on January 6th, 2021, would serve as the coda at the end of the four chaotic years of the first Trump administration.

The images Jon captured as he bravely live-streamed from inside the mob became the most iconic of the horrific day. For over two hours, he put his body on the line and went where so many mainstream outlets would not go. Farina kept his nerve even as Trump supporters attacked Capitol police officers, rammed barricades, shattered glass windows of the Capitol, and erected a makeshift noose and gallows while screaming “Hang Mike Pence!”
The Trump mob damaged three of Jon’s ribs, injuries that would take nearly a year to heal, and which still sometimes bother him today. As the crowd assaulted Capitol police officers with pepper spray, Jon was caught in the cross fire. He could not see and needed to be helped off of Capitol Hill.
Main Highlights From January 6, 2021
But despite all of the pain, he captured the indelible image of bloodied Capitol Police Officer Daniel Hodges crushed against the door to the People’s House as a violent anti-Democracy movement—that has long claimed to champion law enforcement—tried to stampede their collective weight against the inadequate defense.
Without Jon, much of January 6th, 2021, might have been lost to history.
